The house Rooftree is a semi-detached house in Walberswick, Suffolk. It is fully equipped with central heating as well as 2 wood burning stoves, a kitchen and dining room, 2 living rooms downstairs and four bedrooms upstairs, an upstairs bathroom and one en-suite shower room. There are two bedrooms with double beds, one bedroom with two bunk beds and another bedroom with four bunk beds, so it can sleep 4 adults and 6 kids in the main bedrooms with backup space downstairs. It is fully furnished and the kitchen has a 4 ring electric cooker, oven, fridge, microwave and clothes washer. There is a TV in the back living room. There is ample bedding, sheets and towels, but we recommend that you take your own bed linen to avoid problems with cleaning. There is a 150 foot private garden at the back of the house, and parking for 2 cars at the front. Parking in the rest of the village is controlled during the period May-September and there are large pay parking areas by the beach. There is an electrical central heating and hot water system in the house (there is no natural gas supply in the area). Beware that there is a coin meter which takes £1 coins for the electricity, and if you plan to use the central heating it will burn anything up to £10 per day so take a lot of coins! There is a fixed line phone (number 01502-722629) but this is blocked for outgoing calls. Mobile phone reception is very patchy in the village. The area Walberswick is part of the Suffolk Heritage Coastline. It’s next door to Southwold (a larger resort town) which is about one mile away by footpath. Its on the other side of the river which can be crossed by footbridge or the the rowing boat ferry. To get to Southwold by car you have to drive right round via the A12 and its about 10 miles. Rooftree is just 400 metres from the sandy beach, and from there it is possible to walk 2 miles south along the seashore to Dunwich, or north past Southwold to Covehithe and other unspoilt areas. The coastline is almost completely undeveloped, so don’t expect cafes and bingo halls. There are plenty of those a little up the coast in Yarmouth if that’s what you’re looking for. The Norfolk Broads are also nearby, there is a castle at Framlingham, or the delightful coastal town of Aldeburgh to the south. |
